I’ve been having tons of problems with SL. Things were okay the first time I logged on. The second time I logged on, I couldn’t move. The third time, I could move, but I couldn’t stop moving. I walked right into the ocean and just kept going, so I logged off. I logged back on, I wasn’t moving, but I couldn’t see my avatar, it was like I was looking through its eyes. I followed SL support’s suggestions, but it didn’t help. I then uninstalled SL and reinstalled it. I’m out of the ocean (thankfully) and I’m able to see my avatar, but I still can’t move. I can’t fly. And I can’t teleport. I’ve spent some time on SL’s support page, but I don’t see any answers for the basic movement problem. It has an answer for the teleport problem: it tells me to right click on my avatar and then to follow a few instructions, but when I right click, nothing happens. I need some major help! Any suggestions? -Kristy

on a Mac, if you hold down the apple key while clicking with your mouse, you will be right-clicking. As for your other issues, sometimes those errors occur in areas of SL where there are a lot of people. One suggestion: go to help island and ask someone there for advice about specific issues.

I’m having a hard time changing the way my avatar looks. The tutorial’s idea of personalization had me buying a t-shirt.

I mean, I know I live in L.A. but some of us have a more complex notion of identity then brand identity :)

    Anyway, please help.

P.S. Look at me trying to find identity in a computer simulation…

    Jason,

Good to know apple click is the right click. That helps a bit. Unfortunately, I’m still having a few problems. I checked my graphics card, and it’s up-to-date and shouldn’t be the issue. It seems about ever fifth log in is a good log in and I don’t appear to have any troubles–I can move, fly and teleport. When we meet in SL, I think I’ll just have to log on early and keep logging on until it’s successful. I’ll also try visiting help island to see if anyone has any advice.

    Kristy,
I’ll try to get on early so we can talk about your SL problems before class.

My issues are mainly voice chat. although I can hear everyone it seems that i don’t have enough bandwidth to talk back this sucks because I want to be aprt of the discussion. But my typing skills are kinda lame. I hate not participate properly It takes away from my online experience and i think but if I speak and try to make arrangements on the fly It will damage the experience for my peers. Grrrr(frustrated)….
